The Idea. At a church picnic of the Second U.P. Church in the summer of 1903, several members of that church felt a need for a presence on the North Hill of New Castle.
Construction. Construction occurred during the winter of 1903-1904 on a lot just north of Park Avenue on Highland Avenue.
First Service. The first service was held on October 9, 1904.
A Major Expansion Project. In February of 1925, a new sanctuary, offices and class rooms were added. This project more than doubled the size and functionality of the church. The area beneath the sanctuary boosted an indoor horse shoe court.
OTHER Remodeling Projects. During the ensuing years the facade and interior of Highland have undergone many changes. Major fund drives were conducted in the 1950's, 1970's, 1980's and most recently in the mid-1990's. These fund drives paid for minor to major renovations. Each project focused on keeping Highland a vibrant/living House of the Lord.
